Is it a matter of its measure,
or a matter of its weight?
It’s all about the numbers,
while counting through the day.
What does it add up to,
or what does it weigh?
How few can I have?
How many pounds will I see?
What is the equation to find the quotient of me?
Too much or too little,
Too high or too low,
Too big or too small,
The numbers shrink,
and they grow.
Less may be more,
and more may be less,
The numbers may be the catalyst,
for joy,
or distress.
How many tears for euphoria?
And how many equal sorrow?
What number seen today,
will change your day tomorrow?
It’s not these numbers that we count,
that add up to who we are,
Its how we wear their worth,
that defines how near or far.
Nothing weighs as heavy,
as the absence of a spark,
And nothing measures greater,
than being lost inside the dark.
And although you may not heed,
all these numbers that you wear…
A pound of hope indeed,
is lighter-
than an equal pound despair.
